“Evolution is a fact, as securely established as any in science, and he who denies it betrays woeful ignorance and lack of education."

For Republican candidates, politics trump science

The British evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, in a piece written for the Washington Post, wrote that “a politician’s attitude to evolution, however peripheral it might seem, is a surprisingly apposite litmus test of more general inadequacy. This is because unlike, say, string theory, where scientific opinion is genuinely divided, there is about the fact of evolution no doubt at all.”

Dawkins wrote, “Evolution is a fact, as securely established as any in science, and he who denies it betrays woeful ignorance and lack of education, which likely extends to other fields as well. Evolution is not some recondite backwater of science, ignorance of which would be pardonable. It is the stunningly simple but elegant explanation of our very existence and the existence of every living creature on the planet.”

American Christians and Muslim terrorists solved their problem with the religious implications of evolution. They just deny the whole thing.

Here in Idiot America we have two major political parties. They have many differences but their most interesting difference is the Republican Party has become infested with evolution deniers, also known as uneducated morons, also known as Christian assholes.

I'm a big fan of Jon Huntsman. He accepts evolution and he has good ideas about foriegn policy and our economy. Unfortunately Republican voters prefer politicians who are anti-science twits.

Not all the Republican candidates are at war with science. Last month, former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman tweeted to all the world, “To be clear. I believe in evolution and trust scientists on global warming. Call me crazy."

Such sentiments have left Huntsman with about one percent support among likely Republican voters, far behind the anti-science candidates.

Clearly, Huntsman’s problem is that he’s not crazy enough.
